News/Notes 2.10.08 What kind of church is this? If that is the question is on your mind, then the "What We Believe" class is for you. Our "What We Believe Class" is offered a minimum of two times a year. The class meets on seven consecutive Sundays for an hour. Topics covered are: the essential beliefs of the Christian faith, why we believe in the Bible, a brief history of the Christian churches and an introduction to the phiosophies that guide the New London Christian Church. "What We Believe" is led by our teaching minister, Rod Cooper, and is perfect for those who are looking for a church home or those who are just wanting to brush up on the basics. Check calendar for times. |
Very often a guest will ask, "What do you believe?" Our answer would touch on these key areas. The Bible Both the Old and New Testament, are the inspired, inerrant Word of God. Human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit wrote the Bible. It is the authoritative guide for our lives. God God is the Creator and Ruler of everyone and everything. He is the one God who has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Jesus Jesus is the Son of God. He was equally God and man while on the earth. He lived a sinless life and then offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all through His death on a cross. He arose from the grave after three days, demonstrating His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven and will return again to reign as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Salvation Salvation is a gift from God. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. We are saved by placing our trust in Jesus as our Lord and Savior. The Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is at work in the world helping unbelievers become aware of their need for Jesus. He also lives within every believer, providing them with power for godly living, while equipping them with special abilities to care for others. Eternity We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or in union with Him through salvation. To be eternally separated from God is to dwell in Hell. To be eternally in union with God is to dwell in Heaven.
